Each issue we roll the dice in the “game of wisdom”, Gyan Chaupar, to see which topic we should contemplate.
Last week we explored the topic of ‘Identity’ and this week follows on nicely as we’ve rolled a 3 to land on ‘Polarity’. Did the dice pick up on the tension in the air following last week’s US election? Coincidence or not, it seems like the perfect time to reflect on the nature of polarities and how they affect our lives.
So let’s dive back in, with four thoughts and two questions.
4 thoughts on polarity
From Carl Jung
The greater the tension, the greater is the potential. Great energy springs from a correspondingly great tension of opposites.
From Alan Watts
Really, the fundamental, ultimate mystery — the only thing you need to know to understand the deepest metaphysical secrets — is this: that for every outside there is an inside and for every inside there is an outside, and although they are different, they go together.
From Vineeta
Nature is our best teacher in showing us how polarities exist to complete the cycle of life. The spring and autumn, feast and famine, rain and drought, night and day and many more polarities offer learnings for our soul.
From Tom
In physics, the ‘measurement problem’ arises from the fact that everything is interdependent and affects everything else, so there is no way to measure anything in the universe with certainty. So too with morality, as there are no fixed points of pure good or pure evil, everything is relative.
2 questions about polarity
What is polarising your view today?
Is it possible that two opposing perspectives could simultaneously be valid?
If you’ve liked this, please do pay it forward and share it with someone you know.
Much love
